Two new free songs, one here on the T.Rex DigiLab and another from Peppermill Records, as well as huge updates to Jaya’s Top Music of 2k10 List. One stone at a time chippy…

El Cancion Primer: “Out of the Unknown” by El Haijn
I heard a preview of this track and it became an immediate favorite. “Out of the Unknown” is a part of the “2999″ project by Peppermill Records and is the second free song from the album. There are more each week. You can listen to this one right here:

…and then visit the Mill and get your download on!

El Cancion Secundo: “Non-finite” by San Jaya Prime
Next up is this week’s release from “IO Vapoura [Variations]“. A few handful of people have been waiting more than a year (some more, some less) to get the finalized copy of this one. It’s “Non-finite”, a chillout adventure into vocal beauty amid serene moments and clashing beats. Click play to listen, click the down arrow to download, click the weird bracket “Share”-thing to tell others (it looks like </> and I have no idea why!?).

…go to “Non-finite” Notes, Story and Album Art

Jaya’s Top Music of 2k10 List: With how quickly changes were coming up for this list, it’s actually been migrated into a Google Wave that y’all can access here on our site. There is also a survey now in case you want to make suggestions, submit your favorite genre and more. As it will be updated all year long, here is where to visit and bookmark the page:

The future is now. Peppermill Records has brought artists from around the world together to score the year 2999. It’s a bass-heavy, subbass dubstep grimey playground and woofer candy on an entirely new level. To name just a few of these artists: Kraddy, Alphabets Heaven, The Widdler, Mochipet, Stagga, ill.Gates, Robot Koch, DNTEL, Raffertie, Cardopusher, Taal Mala. Here is where to check it out:

“Arka” by Alphabets Heaven (the 2999 competition winner) is already up for free download on the main page. Click on the spaceship art for it to bring up its page. There will be a new track every week, many with their own art and all handcrafted to maximize their futuristic bass potential. Stay tuned every week for a new track and keep an ear open for “Escape from Hunahpu” by Jaya Prime from this same collection.

San Jaya Prime’s “IO Vapoura [Variations]” begins… now! The organic, classical instruments of both East and West are met with the synthetic, organic genres of downtempo, dreampop, chillout and more. The opening track “Gongo Dodan” is up for free download on the IO Vapoura Main Album Page, with a new track scheduled for release each week until all thirteen are online. Each track will have its own album art, notes and stories. Welcome to Vapoura.

2k10 may yet prove to be the best year in music since ’99. I’ll go over my (Jaya) own list, but have two I want to highlight.

UV: Ugress, the mad scientist of music, leader of the European Robot Alliance and an inspiration to all hybrid artists, is celebrating his ten year anniversary this November. Part of the celebration includes releasing his fifth full studio album. The yet unnamed album, based on the incredible albums building up to this, will likely be nothing less than amazing. For more on this, check out the good doctor’s blog entry “Ugress 5: November 29th, 2010“.

2999: Just weeks until “2999″ begins. P K and the Peppermill have organized so many bass-heavy, sci-fi inspired artists to bring together this futuristic themed album. Expect Grime, Dubstep, Acid IDM and much more. Jaya from the T.Rex DigiLab is on there, alongside other artists. Here’s a short list: DNTEL, Mochipet, The Widdler, Robot Koch, Kid606, Jason Forrest, Elemental, Cardopusher, Taal Mala, Longwalkshortdock, Satanicpornocultshop. update! Tracks have started releasing. Here is where to follow as the tracks are released from week-to-week: Peppermill Records – 2999

And the rest the year? In fact, I’ll include what’s already come out and cover it all at once. Because of how many updates there are, I’ve actually moved this list to a Google Wave. As long as you’re not on Internet Explorer, you can pull up the list right here on our site (I suggest bookmarking it):

http://www.trochlearrex.com/best_of_2k10.html

I’m happy to note that the majority of the list (so far) is from the open-core scene and can be downloaded for free. Even a lot of the others are from the hybrid scene and have at least one (if not more) singles up for free download. Open-core is making a big push and the talent in the scene is off the charts!

I’ll keep updating the list as the year unfolds and will likely do this for years to come.

The winner of the “2999” competition has been announced: AlphabetsHeaven! You really have to hear the incredible frequencies to this sound to believe it:

Alphabets by alphabetsheaven

The runners up (yes, I’m on there):
Acre
+verb
San Jaya Prime
Auditory Aphasia

The rumor is that there will be new illustrations all over the album, so keep an ear on May for that deep, broken subbass sound coming out of the future. To listen to some of the rough drafts of the two tracks I submitted, check my SoundCloud here. I have a list of peeps to thank that I’ll post with the next update on this project. For now, back out into space for me…

News from… everywhere. Spaced-out huge project going on at the Pepper Mill, prerelease track out from Glitch Mob and more. For anyone following SJP’s summer album progression, the new scratch tracks have been released. You can listen to ‘em right here or on SoundCloud:

Pepper Mill Records has invited open-core artists around the world to collaborate with them on an album themed on a painting, based in the year 2999. Yes, you read all of that correctly. For many of you, for us and for millions of others this is “right up our biomechanical alley”. You can hear an early version of the track SJP will be submitting as “Synapse Collapse” in the previews above. Ghost Face Geisha is working on a submission as well. As always, Pepper Mill comes with the cannons sparking. Here’s where to find out more (deadline is April 18th):

The Glitch Mob let loose a little more than a whisper yesterday when the prerelease cut of “Drive It Like You Stole It” hit the HypeMachine, XLR8R, Twitter and anywhere else that runs on Internet-for-blood. If this is just a taste of what their new album and proceeding tour have in store for the year, they may well dominate even more strongly than they did last year. Nothing may be able to slow these beasts… and why try? Download the single for free via HypeMachine here and add it to your favorites.

The Free Music Download Page has had some format changes and three albums from our archives have been digitally re-mastered and put up on the page for your listening pleasure. March in Austin is off to a very, very wet start… although it may as well have been raining ever since last summer. Needless to say, it’s looking to be a very green year here in the ATX. Cheers!

Chikin Little has confirmed it: the sky is falling. No, wait, that’s just snow. In other news, the scratch tracks for Jaya Prime’s album this coming summer are online for listening on SoundCloud. Anyone who leaves criticism or suggestions has been receiving free prerelease copies of a song that does not appear on the scratch tracks. In fact, you can listen right here:

The new EP from Jaya Prime, titled “The Smell of a Storm” was released this last Saturday. It is exclusively for fans of chiptune, snarecore, 8bit breaks, ambient IDM and atmospheric drum and bass. AKA, not for organic consumption. If you’re a non-organic or hybrid, then it can be downloaded for free off of BandCamp or listened to right here:

Welcome to August! There is a lot of fun to cover. For those who missed it, Jaya Prime’s album “IO Teknika” hit the net at the end of July and is available for free download. Check it:

You can download the tracks from here on the site in average quality, or purchase the album for five bones off of BandCamp in high quality (as well as in insanely high qualities).

News from the labs, above all, is that Ghost Face Geisha just left the ATX after the owners and producers gathered. Many new images, recovered images and sounds are all bubbling into the future at this very moment. This coming October, Geisha will be moving to the ATX and the previously mentioned site overhaul will set underway. Anyone who would like to see something changed on the site (or added to it) should contact us before then. We have electronic ears set up to listen.

For some previews of the images you’ll find entering the site soon, check out the two below:

The Gopher King

There is music coming as well. Check the Free Download Page here in the next few days, as Epileptik Cerebral Reaktor’s debut album–”Fluxuati”–is due for re-release and has been re-mastered by BMFD. Tracks like “Ten Blessings” and “Lost Liver” have long been favorites. We’re bringin’ ‘em back.

Finally, the time between updates will continue to be long as we make final preparations to travel out towards the Black Rock Desert. The year has turned round the sun, and soon the last great tribe of mankind will gather around the wheel of time to celebrate all that is great in the species… and to burn a man. Much love to everyone who is planning to meet us out there. To all the rest, we will see you on the other side of the world.

News from the open-source music scene: Ugress, mad scientist extraordinaire, has released his fourth album–Reminiscience. It may be too early to tell, but this could quite easily be his best work to-date. With a jazzy start, the album progresses into darker and darker elements. At first listen, it is almost as if the songs are moving through the stages of life up until the end, except on a more global level. You can find links to listen to it or purchase it from the good doctor’s main site here:
